Privacy Policy
How BinMule collects, uses and protects your information. Short version: what is inside your bins is for your eyes only.
Last updated: October 22, 2026
This policy explains what information BinMule ("we", "us") collects when you use our website, web app and bin services, and how we protect it. By using BinMule you agree to this policy.
The short version
- Only you can see what is inside your bins. Our owner, staff and drivers can see a bin's status, who holds it and how many days it has been out. They cannot see your item lists or photos.
- A QR label contains only a random code and our web address. It never contains your name, address or what is inside.
- We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising or tracking.
Information we collect
Account information. Your name, email address, phone number and password when you sign up, and your delivery address when you order or return bins.
Bin content you add. Bin names, locations, item names, quantities, notes and photos.
Delivery and support records. Delivery and collection requests, notes for our driver, and messages you send through support chat or email.
Security and usage records. Sign-in times, network (IP) addresses, device type, bin scan results (such as a wrong PIN) and account actions. We keep these to protect accounts and investigate abuse.
How we use your information
- To run your account, deliver and collect bins, and show you your own lists.
- To email you about your account: password resets, delivery updates, support replies, and security alerts such as a sign-in from a new network or repeated wrong PIN attempts on your bin.
- To protect the service: preventing fraud, abuse and unauthorized access.
- To meet legal obligations.
How we protect your bin contents
- PIN gate. Anyone who opens a bin link who is not signed in as the owner sees a PIN screen. The correct PIN gives a read-only view of that single bin for 15 minutes. After 8 wrong tries, PIN access to that bin pauses for one hour and we email the owner.
- Hashing. Passwords and bin PINs are stored scrambled (hashed). We cannot read them back.
- Photos. Uploaded photos are re-saved by our server, which removes location data and hidden metadata. They are stored in a private area and only shown after a permission check.
- Sharing your PIN. If you give your PIN to someone, they can see your bin contents while their access lasts. You can change your PIN at any time on your account page.
Optional photo assistant
If your account has the optional "Pro" photo-to-item-list feature and it is switched on, a photo you choose is sent to an AI service (Anthropic) to suggest an item list. Photos are sent only when you press the button for that photo.
Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers needed to run BinMule, such as web hosting and email delivery, and only as needed for them to do their job. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect people, our service or our rights. We do not sell personal information.
Cookies
We use one essential cookie that keeps you signed in and protects our forms against forgery. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
How long we keep information
We keep your account and bin content while your account is open. When you remove one of your own bins, its items and photos are deleted. When we collect a rented bin, its items and photos are wiped. You can ask us to delete your account. We may keep limited records (such as delivery history and security logs) for as long as needed for legal, accounting or security reasons.
Your choices and rights
- Download your data (JSON) and your items (CSV) from your account page.
- Update your profile, PIN and password at any time.
- Turn on two-factor authentication.
- Ask us to correct or delete your information, or to close your account, by emailing us.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under local law. Contact us and we will help.
Children
BinMule is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed credentials, access controls and rate limiting. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please keep your password and PIN private.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with a new date. Continuing to use BinMule after a change means you accept it.
