How Many Moving Bins Do I Need?
A simple guide to how many reusable bins you need for a studio, 1, 2, 3 or 4 bedroom home in New Jersey.
A quick guide to bin counts
The right number of bins depends on your home and how much you own. These are typical starting points for a move. Most people end up adding a few more, so it is better to round up.
- Studio or dorm room: 10 to 15 bins
- 1 bedroom apartment: 15 to 25 bins
- 2 bedroom home: 25 to 35 bins
- 3 bedroom home: 35 to 50 bins
- 4 bedroom home or larger: 50 to 70 bins
Which BinMule package fits?
- Starter (5 bins) suits a closet, a small spare room or seasonal storage.
- Home (10 bins) covers a garage shelf, a home office or a studio move.
- Family (20 bins) works for a one or two bedroom move or a big clear-out.
- Big Move (40 bins) suits a larger home, a renovation or a full downsizing.
Need more? Add single bins to any package. See current prices in the pricing section.
Tips to avoid running short
- Declutter first. Every item you donate is one less thing to pack.
- Keep heavy items light. Books go in small bins, clothes and bedding in large ones.
- Count your cupboards. Kitchens usually need more bins than people expect.
- Plan for the last day. Keep two or three spare bins for the things you find at the end.
